The Great Gatsby: The Opening Page

  “Reserving judgement is a matter of infinite hope…” – Nick Carraway

As we begin to read The Great Gatsby, there is an important point to note about our narrator, Nick Carraway before we get too far into the novel.

Using the opening page of the story, the students worked through the following questions independently to prepare for the conversation we would have in class. We were aiming to understand Nick’s position as the narrator of the story and consider what the benefits and limitations of this are.
